Welcome back! Today I am covering pages 187 and 188, or Design To-Dos and Not-To-Dos.
In this section we are exploring the things we want to do and not do around:
  • Activity choices
  • Tricky Issues
  • Breakouts
  • Availability

I’ll be continuing to share more as we go to explore the rest of chapter 5.

If you know of others who could benefit from this series, please pass it on! I also hope that you will consider joining me for the next Virtual Facilitation Essentials – learn more here.

While everyone thinks they are an expert at Zoom, you may be recognizing that there’s still lots to learn in this area! Even if we’ve been leading conversations in the virtual space for decades, there’s always something more to learn!

Best,
Jennifer

Welcome back to Day 65 of the Daily Author Reading Series for Effective Virtual Conversations. Thanks for joining us.
Today we are exploring one of the central themes of this book – creating engagement and capturing attention. With group members likely moving from Zoom call to Zoom call, being able to signal that this is a different call, is important.
In today’s reading I pick up on page 185 and 186, focusing on the Accordion principle to design, as well as Design Dos and Don’ts around Questioning and Storytelling.

What are the things you might want to expand if the conversation is moving along? What are the things you might want to collapse?

If you enjoyed today’s author reading, be sure to pick up a copy of Effective Virtual Conversations at Amazon.

Best,
Jennifer

#1 – Who is Your Group Member? – Knowing Your Audience
As well as some tips forgetting to know your group members before you actually launch the call

For this section you will want to be sure you have a pen and paper and take some notes around Knowing Your Audience

If you found today’s reading useful, I also hope that you will consider joining me for the next Virtual Facilitation Essentials Train-The-Trainer session – learn more here. A new four-week group starts on July 6th (Mondays 12:30 – 2 pm ET) and a one-day offering is happening on Wednesday July 8th. Hope that you will join us!

  • Key Design Principles- Size Matters, Translating Classroom Based to Online
  • The 7 Stages of Designing a Virtual Program

What are the elements you want to incorporate into your work?
Enjoy!

Welcome back! Today I am covering pages 173 – 175, or four areas you’ll want to place a focus on as you go to create a memorable virtual conversation from a design standpoint:
  • Process
  • Engagement
  • Variety
  • Pacing

I also cover a number of questions for you to run through as a mini-checklist every time you go to design and lead a program. Grab a pen and note them down!

I’ll be continuing to share more into next week as we go to explore the rest of chapter 5. If you know of others who could benefit from this series, please pass it on! I also hope that you will consider joining me for the next Virtual Facilitation Essentials – learn more here. While everyone thinks they are an expert at Zoom, you may be recognizing that there’s still lots to learn in this area!

All the best,

Effective Virtual Conversations Reading - Day 60

Welcome back to Day 60 of the Daily Author Reading Series for Effective Virtual Conversations. Thanks for joining us. Yesterday I focused on four more of the eight neuroscience principles which you can incorporate into your virtual programming.

Today we are swinging back to the 2nd part of the PEBBLLES ETC model of Design. What are the things you can do to build in more focus on:
  • Expect the Unexpected
  • Set People Up For Success
  • Embrace the Chaos
  • Tools and Resources
  • Clarity

Yes, there is a typo in the PEBBLLES ETC model because we know that memorability is created when things are novel or unusual.

What’s going to help you have the best call with people?

I also look at the Practitioner’s Tip around Resilience, Recovery and Renewal. What are you doing to keep yourself at peak?

Follow along with the reading on pages 171 – 173.

Best wishes,
Jennifer

Welcome back to Day 59 of the Daily Author Reading Series for Effective Virtual Conversations. Thanks for joining us. Yesterday I focused on four of eight neuroscience principles which you can incorporate into your virtual programming.

Today we are going to look at the last four:
  • PEA/NEA – Check out this research from Dr. Richard Boyatsis and his team, including his latest book, Coaching for Change
  • Micro-moments
  • Positive Interaction
  • Social Brain

There’s more on these topics on pages 164-169.

What’s going to help you have the best conversation?

Effective Virtual Conversations Reading - Day 58

Today we are exploring some of the neuroscience behind great virtual conversations. It is important to integrate science with design. In today’s post I am taking you through four of the eight areas I highlight in Effective Virtual Conversations:
  • Oxytocin
  • Latency and Recency Effect
  • Fight or Flight
  • Mirror Neurons

What can you do to incorporate these in your work?

Read more in the book on pages 162 to 165.

Almost thirty years ago, as I completed my undergrad at McGill University in a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, I was fascinated by how the brain works. Today we continue to see important advances in this area.

Consider how science can support your best programming virtually.

If you found today’s reading useful, I also hope that you will consider joining me for the next Virtual Facilitation Essentials – find out more here.

Best,

Welcome back to day 57 of the Effective Virtual Conversations daily author reading series. I hope that you will pass this series on to others you know can benefit from the focus on their conversations.

Today we are exploring pages 160 – 162 of the book in Chapter 5 on Design: Creating the Container. HOW we design our calls has a significant impact in terms of learning, retention and memorability. Today’s reading takes us into the first part of the PEBBLLES ETC (yes, there’s a typo here to make it more memorable!) best practices around design.

Listen in as I share more about:
  • Preparation and Practice
  • Expectations
  • Breakouts
  • Brain-based
  • Less is More
  • Loop Back and Link to the Workplace

On day 60, we are going to pick up with the ES and ETC.

What are the elements you want to incorporate into your work?

Enjoy!
